This course will focus in-depth on the development of skills and theoretical knowledge pertaining to the beginning, middle and end stages of the bi-cultural counselling process with whānau/clients; particularly focussing on the principles of whanaungatanga and whakapapa. Students will learn to attend, respond and collaborate in the bi-cultural counselling process. This course gives students opportunity to gain practical experience in working with whānau/clients under supervised conditions. Students will develop and demonstrate bi-cultural counselling skills appropriate to the whānau/client group with whom they are working. Students will participate in supervision in its professional, cultural and legal context and learn to use supervision to enhance their counselling practice.
