Want to be a trained first aider? This is the short course for you.

During this course you will gain the skills to undertake appropriate first aid within a workplace. This course will help you to know what to do in an emergency or at the scene of an accident.
As a trained first aider you can provide prompt first response to emergencies and provide care to prevent injuries or illness getting worse while waiting for medical help to arrive. You can also treat minor injuries that do not require medical treatment.
This course assesses for unit standards:
- Unit 6400 Manage first aid in an emergency situation
- Unit 6401 Provide first aid
- Unit 6402 Provide basic life support
On successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Assess emergency situations
Provide basic first aid treatment for:
- Adult, child and infant resuscitation and choking
- Bleeding, shock, fractures, sprains and head injuries
- Hypothermia, burns and poisoning
- Medical emergencies, including asthma, diabetes and epilepsy
- Know how to use a Defibrillator (AED)
- Manage complex medical and traumatic emergency care situations
