Neil isn’t just our tutor—he’s also the co-owner of Moose Ninja Studios, so not only do our students learn industry-relevant skills, but they also get some cool hands-on experiences on set too. And it’s paying off.
Striking gold yet again at the recent Top of the South Film Festival Gala, Neil’s team, which included several students, took home the award for Best Visual FX for their film One Up. One of our students, Super, was also nominated for Best Animation—a huge achievement in an increasingly competitive field.
Super comes from Thailand and is enjoying life in Nelson. He says he found the Gala experience a bit nerve-wracking, however he had a wonderful time.
“It was my first time wearing a proper suit. I wish I didn’t eat so much before going, because there was so much good food there!”
A self-professed introvert whilst working, Super is loving his studies towards his New Zealand Diploma in Animation (Level 5)(external link) at NMIT and plans to gain the Bachelor of Computer-Generated Imagery(external link).
“My flat is very close to the Nelson Campus, and there aren’t many people in the animation labs at night, which works well for me,” he says.
“I push myself to the limits and work as hard as I can, and actually enjoy it. It feels like a dream to be able to do what I truly want.”
Super hopes to one day produce quality work for major cinema projects.
“I also want to create my own animation with a unique style that I love.”
