Scholarship fuels ambition in business accounting

Reuben says that after completing his Diploma in Business Accounting this year he plans to continue studying at NMIT in pursuit of a Bachelor of Accounting. 

“I chose to study Applied Business because I’m passionate about business in the context of finance, accountancy, leadership, and management,” Reuben says. “It’s something I’ve always been interested in, and I see it as a path of endless opportunities where I can make a meaningful impact to both individuals and organisations.”

The scholarship review committee for Nelson Pine Industries was particularly impressed by Reuben’s clarity of purpose, his drive to generate economic opportunities for stakeholders, and his interest in continuous professional development.

In addition to receiving $1,000 toward his study fees, Reuben had the opportunity to meet with the CEO of Nelson Pine Industries, Kai Kruse, who gave him a tour of the MDF and LVL manufacturing plants. Together they discussed real-world applications of business accounting in the manufacturing world.

“Reuben is an impressive young person,” says Kai. “He possesses a wide set of skills needed to keep a business agile, and I’m sure that one day he’ll be a valuable asset to any organisation he’s in.” 

“I’m very appreciative of their vote of confidence,” Reuben says. “The scholarship has allowed me to engage with my coursework more deeply and pushes me to make the most of every opportunity at NMIT.”

Reuben says the recognition has allowed him to fully focus on his coursework, as well as his favourite parts of class: collaborating with his classmates. 

“One of the highlights of my NMIT journey has been working alongside my peers in class—collaborating in small groups on exercises and assessments. Working with others in the same way I one day will in business has given me confidence in my abilities and reminded me why I chose this path.”
