The aim of this course is for students to extend and apply knowledge and skills gained in Introduction to Society, Introduction to Social Work Practice, Applied Social Policy, Applied Social Work Practice 2, Advanced Social Work Practice and Advanced Professional Practice to Rural Social Work. They will analyse and critique current thinking about the rural social context, rural social work practice and social policy as it impacts on rural communities in Aotearoa New Zealand. Through an interview and review of literature students will build a comprehensive understanding of daily life for rural dwellers. They will use their knowledge, skills and a reading of literature to analyse in depth a specific field of practice in the rural context.
