If you are working in a job across the conservation, horticulture or viticulture industries, this short course will train you in the safe use of chainsaws.

From simple pruning and cutting up firewood to felling trees, knowing how to properly use and maintain a chainsaw is essential for both the user’s safety and that of others. This is a must-have for many forestry positions, including arborist, conservation, groundsmen and horticulturists.

Learn how to work chainsaws with safety and confidence

Health and safety are the primary focus, with attention on first aid, positioning, and cutting techniques.

Upon completing the course, you will have proven that you can:

Assemble, maintain, and operate chainsaws to a professional standard
Are competent enough to use chainsaws in accord with current requirements for the operation of a chainsaw in the workplace

The course is run over four days and includes practical tasks. The first two days are a block course on campus where you will cover the course outline and safety requirements.

Then you will go back to your workplace and spend time on the chainsaw gaining experience. In the final two days of the course, we will assess your practical competence for awarding of the final unit.
