Parking

There are over 350 parking spaces across campus available for visitors and learners.

Parking Information

With over 350 parking spaces available across campus for both visitors and learners, you'll find parking to be convenient. If you're a learner at NMIT, you can park your vehicle in the designated car park for your programme.

Please note: Parking is on a 'first-come, first-served' basis, and spots aren't guaranteed.

Nelson Campus Learners | Parking Onsite

If you are studying at the Nelson Campus, please provide your licence plate details to park onsite between 8 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday. Your details will be submitted directly to the Parking Enforcement Services website.

Email enrolments@nmit.ac.nz with your student ID number and licence plate details after completing your enrolment.

Learners attending night classes do not need to provide licence plate details, as onsite car parks are not monitored after 4:30 PM.

For learners on day/block courses, please email enrolments@nmit.ac.nz with your student ID number and licence plate details post-enrolment.

Parking dates will be specified on the Parking Enforcement Services website, aligning with your enrolment period.

Standard parking rules apply and are displayed on nearby signs. One vehicle per learner.

If you need to park a different car onsite, please email enrolments@nmit.ac.nz with the new licence plate details to avoid a parking breach notice ($85.00 fine).

The onsite car park locations are indicated on the campus map below.

Parking Infringements

Onsite parking is monitored, and infringements for failure to follow parking rules or failure to register your licence plate will incur an $85.00 infringement from Parking Enforcement Services.

Offsite parking is also monitored, and infringements for failure to follow parking rules will incur a Parking Breach Notice (fine) from Nelson City Council.

Richmond Campus Learners

If you are a Richmond Campus learner and need to visit Nelson Campus, please email enrolments@nmit.ac.nz with your student ID number and your licence plate details.

Marlborough Campus Learners

If you are a Marlborough Campus learner, you do not need to provide your licence plate details.

Overnight Stays and Camping

No overnight stays or camping, in any vehicle (self-contained or non-self-contained), is permitted in NMIT car parks. The local Councils have information on where freedom camping is allowed in their region and other camping options.

Please contact SANITI to discuss your situation if this affects you, as they may have options for assistance.

In Nelson, there are also Nelson City Council (NCC) parking areas in the residential neighbourhood around campus. Some NCC parks display designated parking times. Due to parking pressures in Nelson, both NMIT and NCC monitor their car parking areas, and infringement tickets are issued to those not abiding by the rules. Avoid getting fines by being aware of the NMIT parking rules that are displayed at all NMIT car park entrances or using alternative transport methods.

Parking Areas

NMIT also has a number of bicycle racks, and the eBus timetable is worth checking out for cheap bus fares around the city and as far out as Richmond. They even have an iOS app!

There are also a few private car parks, including the Masonic Lodge on Nile Street, where for a fee you can park all day on weekdays.

Plan your travel to get to classes on time without any stress.
