We have over 350 parking spaces across our campuses, available for both visitors and learners. Parking is on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be guaranteed.

Nelson campus parking

If you're studying at our Nelson Campus, you must register your licence plate to park onsite from 8 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday. Simply complete the online form after enrolling using the button above. Your details will be sent directly to Parking Enforcement Services(external link).

  • Night class learners: No registration needed – parking is unmonitored after 4:30 PM.
  • Day/block course learners: Please register your licence plate using the button above.
  • Parking dates will align with your enrolment period and will be listed on the Parking Enforcement Services website.

📍 Need to park a different car? Update your licence plate details using the button at the top of the page to avoid an $85 infringement notice.

Parking rules & infringements

Onsite parking is monitored. Failure to follow parking rules or register your licence plate may result in an $85 fine from Parking Enforcement Services.

Offsite parking is also monitored by Nelson City Council, and breaches may result in a Parking Breach Notice (fine).

Richmond & Marlborough campus parking

Richmond learners visiting Nelson campus: Please use the button at the top of the page to register your vehicle prior to visiting Nelson campus.

Marlborough learners: No licence plate registration is required.

Overnight stays & camping

Overnight stays or camping in vehicles (self-contained or non-self-contained) are not permitted in NMIT car parks. Please check local council websites for approved freedom camping and accommodation options. If you need assistance, contact SANITI(external link) for support.

Additional Parking & Transport Options

  • Nelson City Council offers parking in the surrounding residential areas. Some spaces have designated time limits—please check signage.
  • To avoid parking stress, consider cycling (bike racks available) or using the eBus for affordable transport.
  • Private paid parking options, such as the Masonic Lodge on Nile Street, offer all-day parking on weekdays.
