Real-life learning starts from day one for our male and female ākonga as they work on construction and team skills in a dedicated construction space on campus.
The main project they will focus on for the year is building houses constructed to Kāinga Ora specifications and adapted to fit with the NMIT carpentry training programmes. With the tutors there to support them and work alongside them, students get valuable real-life experience and are as close to a real building project as you can get.
During the programme, you will not only realise the importance of working together for a common goal but also become really competent with hand and power tools and familiar with the methodology of sub-flooring, wall framing, cladding, gibbing and working at heights.
