Industry partners provide input into our programmes through face to face meetings, surveys, research and advisory boards. Advisory board members provide advice on industry training needs and help us develop programmes to meet those needs. They also continually review existing programmes to ensure they remain up to date, relevant and fit for purpose.
Companies such as Constellation Brands, New Zealand King Salmon and Nelson Pine Industries sponsor generous annual study scholarships for our students. Not only do these scholarships make life a little easier for students, they help the companies foster links with high achievers.
All our programmes are 'applied' which means students need to gain real world experience. Many programmes include a work experience component. Our second year aviation engineering students for example, spend up to eight weeks in an industry placement - which can sometimes lead to a full-time job.
Industry partners work with us to sponsor new facilities or technologies on-campus while others open their doors to our students. For example, NMIT aquaculture students study both on-campus and at the Cawthron Institute's Aquaculture Park at The Glen.
Our qualifications have been developed to meet the needs of learners as well as the broader New Zealand society and economy. We work with a number of other training providers in the delivery of programmes. This helps to reduce duplication of qualifications and makes it easier for students to transfer between different institutes. Training organisations we work with include:
Ara - Institute of Canterbury
Bay of Plenty Polytechnic
Auckland University of Technology
Eastern Institute of Technology
NorthTec
Otago Polytechnic
Waikato Institute of technology
Waiariki Institute of Technology
Whitireia New Zealand
Skills Update Training Institute
