The students spend the year working on a Grass Kart for their class project and then they get to put it to the test by competing for the fastest kart.
The West Coast Trades Academy students also join in and they battle it out on the improvised race track back field at Tapawera Area School.
Trades Academy coordinator at NMIT Maisie Blakeborough, said the students made driving the karts look very easy as they flew around corners.
“I thought ‘get me in a kart and I’ll do that too’ but once I was in one it was a very different story.”
