NMIT tutor Jess Shirley(external link) has been recognised at the prestigious New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography (NZIPP) Iris Awards(external link) in Christchurch, being selected as a finalist in the NZ Illustrative Photographer of the Year category.

The 2025 Iris Awards, held in August, celebrated excellence, originality, and professionalism in photography, recognising the artistry and technical skill of photographers across all genres.

This marks the third consecutive year Jess has been a finalist for the Illustrative Photographer award. Of her nine entries, eight received prizes, including Silver and Bronze in the Illustrative category, Silver and Bronze in the Landscape category, and a Bronze in the Portrait category.

Jess says she is thrilled with the results.

“I’m so happy with how my work was received this year. It’s a huge honour to be recognised alongside so many talented photographers, and I’m incredibly grateful to NMIT for the support they’ve given me through my research and submissions.”

NMIT is proud to support Jess in her creative and professional journey.
