In Nelson Tasman, NMIT collaborates with industry partners and the Department of Conservation (DOC) to produce apiculture, conservation and horticulture programmes that build practical skills vital to regions across Aotearoa.

On-the-job training

Don’t let work get in the way of upskilling or gaining qualifications.

NMIT programmes are designed to support industry by providing breaks around critical times of the season, allowing seasonal workers to upskill or specialise and focus on learning in a way that suits them for the next season.

Many of our primary industry students work regionally across Aotearoa using online classes and study tools while receiving student and pastoral support just like any other on-campus student.

This allows learners to concentrate on jobs and self-direct their study, apply it at the workplace and still gain the advantage of being on-campus for block courses to learn specialist methods, experience new technology and be a part of research projects.

Programmes at levels 2 – 5 also have learning that can be applied across different primary industries.

The power of Te Pūkenga means that NMIT works closely with Primary Industry Training Organisations (ITOs) to deliver several programmes. We can also work directly with employers to upskill workforces with a focus on specific skills tailored to empower teams.

NMIT also delivers practical training to iwi and community groups to encourage the growth of knowledge across our rohe (region).

Following seasonal work isn’t restricted to New Zealand either. Our well-connected, well-travelled tutors have successfully placed students in international exchange and seasonal work abroad across some of the best wineries in Australia, Europe and the States.
