Sustainable Aquaculture, level 3

These blended courses allow your staff to work at their own pace online to complete their assessments with support from our team of tutors before a two-week block course on the Nelson Campus.

Aquaculture Industry Experience SAQ304

The aim of this course is to familiarise learners with the workplace, demonstrating safety and the ability to work as a team.

Sustainable Aquaculture, level 4

Aquaculture Health and Product Quality (Fish) The aim of this course is to develop an understanding of health issues affecting aquaculture species and problems with product quality.
Aquaculture Biosecurity and Systems (Fish) The aim of this course is to develop knowledge of Biosecurity processes, follow standard operating procedures and independently construct aquaculture systems.
Aquaculture Hatchery and Husbandry (Fish) The aim of this course is for learners to implement and monitor stock in an aquaculture hatchery operation.
Marine Operations and Skills The aim of this course is to provide basic marine skills appropriate to the aquaculture industry.
Work Placement (Fish) The aim of this course is to develop stock management practices and processes in an aquaculture operation.
Aquaculture Health and Product Quality (Shellfish) The aim of this course is to develop an understanding of health issues affecting aquaculture species and problems with product quality.
Aquaculture Biosecurity and Systems (Shellfish) The aim of this course is to enable the learner to demonstrate knowledge of advanced winery equipment required during winemaking operations.
Aquaculture Hatchery and Husbandry (Shellfish) The aim of this course is for learners to implement and monitor stock in an aquaculture hatchery operation.
Marine Operations and Skills (Shellfish) The aim of this course is to provide basic marine skills appropriate to the aquaculture industry.

Biosecurity and Health Issues in Chinook Salmon, Level 5

This course is taught for 6 hours supported by 14 hours of learner-managed hours.

Learners will gain a good understanding of biosecurity; the nature of disease and stress; pathogens and health issues; health monitoring and biosecurity monitoring and documentation.  

Learners who complete the course will be able to:

  • Identify the nature of disease and stress in Chinook salmon
  • Identify pathogens and evaluate health issues in Chinook salmon
  • Complete biosecurity monitoring and the relevant documentation
